Day 6

Last night there was hardly any sleeping in the Camp. It was really hot and we had "mattresses" that were only about 2 cm in width - part of the camping fun!

A couple of people were snoring so loud that the rest of us couldn't sleep.  Poor Simon spent the night walking around the Camp site. At 3 am in the morning all the roosters started crowing.

So by 6 am we were up having breakfast all looking very weary (except those few that slept and snored all night - Holly, Kat and Brad)!

Today we walked for 16 kms in 38 degrees heat with 99% humidity for 7.5 hours. At the end of this there was an option to do another 6.5 kms straight up. Only Lachlan, carol and Holly did this - very impressive.

Lachlan helped people all day today by carrying their packs on many occasions to lend them a hand. He must have been exhausted but then he said he wanted to do the extra 6.5 kms and actually did it in record time - 48 minutes.

Unfortunately I had to bale from doing the last 3 kms as my feet were absolutely covered in blisters. The blisters on my little toes were so big you could hardly make out my actual toes. Uncle has given me some special oil to put on my blisters and tells me it will fix it - let's hope he is right as they are a mess!!!

We got to meet a man today in one of the villages who witnessed some horrible things that were happening to the POW's by the Japanese when he was only 7 years old including cannibalism. He was really interesting to listen to. As we moved along the track Jerome also took us to see a man who had killed many Japanese by taking them out with a handmade blowpipe with poisonous tips. Apparently hundreds of Japanese were picked off by the locals this way.

Jerome asked who wanted to have a go and after Sharkie did, he went up to the tree to take a photo of where his dart had landed. Unfortunately Simon was next to have a go and despite the fact he assures us he was aiming for a certain tree, he actually got the tree where Sharkie was standing and missed his leg by a few centimetres!  He has now been dubbed Simon the assassin!!!

At the end of the day we all went to the river to wash ourselves, our smelly clothes and just chill out in the cool water.

We are all now back in camp attending to blisters and sore feet and getting ready for tomorrow. We are looking forward to what is supposed to be an easier day tomorrow.

Simon has actually moved his tent across to the other side of the camp site in the hope of avoiding the snoring and actually getting some sleep - time will tell.

Thanks so much for your messages of support - everyone has been excited to read them.

P.S. Happy Birthday to Sandra Fulmer, my beautiful sis Maree and Ali's nephew Campbell.

Hooray for hopefully an easier day today! And congratulations on getting through yesterday! 7 and a half hours in that heat is incomprehensible to me! You are all doing so incredibly! Goodluck on all that's ahead! Much love xx

I cant believe you are already 7 days through the trek! You are all doing amazing, and sound like through the pain you are all still managing to have a few laughs and soak in the whole experience.
Ps Mum - Im pretty sure you are going to come back more tanned and much thinner than Britt and I. That knowledge should make the blisters more bearable! Much love xx

WOW!!!! I know I said I wish we could have gone with you.... but after reading about the first few days.... I am not sure sure about that!!!

Seriously, though, you are doing a fantastic job & I know you will all be an amazing support for each other. I know it is unimaginably hard work at the moment, but as many of you have experienced in the past, the bonds you are forming out there will, for many of you last a lifetime!!!

Stay safe & look after those feet.

Love & hugs King & Queen

Wow, you have accomplished so much in such a short time. Rest these weary, blistered scratched bodies of your's. I hope the water at the end of your long days continues to relieve the soreness. You look like you are having so much fun. To be doing what you are in such stifling heat is absolutely amazing. Just think the longer the trek goes on the more tied you will become and the snoring at night will soon be forgotten you will be to tied to hear it. This maybe wishful thinking however, I hope it will be the case. I'm loving reading about your journey and can only imagine how much fun you are all having even though you are putting yourselves through a lot of pain and discomfort. You are creating grate memories enjoy, stay safe and I look forward to reading about your days ahead. Love and best wishes Kristy Scarlett
